Das Wort "Testament", Hebräisch Berith, Griechisch diatheke, bedeutet in erster Linie den Bund, den Gott in die erste trat mit Abraham, dann mit dem Volk Israel. Die Propheten hatten Kenntnis von einem neuen Bund zu denen die eine auf dem Berg Sinai geschlossen sollte verschenken. Dementsprechend Christus beim Letzten Abendmahl spricht von dem Blut des neuen Testaments.
