The Church seems to be in such a hurry to canonize the late Pope John Paul II. Similar action was taken to canonize Mother Teresa not long ago. I have no objections whatsoever in making them saints as they were really great followers of Jesus.
Their actions in this world already proved their worth as saints. This was acknowledged not by just Catholics but all other faiths as well.
I do not understand why the Church is rushing to create saints out of them. Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II and all other great men and women who were declared saints were normal human beings with all the weaknesses and shortcomings like all of us. They had no secrets for their achievements. The greatest weapon they possessed to gain victory over the evil temptations of this material world was the extraordinary love for GOD and fellow humans.
Their lives should be examples for all of us to imitate in our own. By declaring them saints would only alienate them from us as "super humans". We often hear Catholics including the priests saying "Mother Teresa is different, we can't be like her". Yes, we may not be like her but at least try to be like her in our little ways.
Instead of spending so much money, time and energy to quickly create saints out of them, it is better for the Church to emphasize on their examples on earth. The Church should encourage the people to emulate them in our own lives in the community.
We must realize there are so many "saints" in our midst whom we fail to acknowledge. We are taught that God is Love which is true but the phrase Love is God is equally true. Whoever has love in his heart, he has God in him. Unlike our bank account that gets depleted with usage, God's love is forever replenished as we share it with others.
We all have the gift of God, LOVE, within us. All we have to do is be unselfish and share it with others and we too will be saints in the eyes of the Lord.
