Beautifully illustrated book about First Holy Communion based on words of Pope Benedict XVI

In this new children's book, "Friendship with Jesus", Editor Amy Welborn, a well-known author and blogger, introduces Pope Benedict's profound yet simple answers to various questions put to him by children in Rome who had recently made their First Holy Communion. Topics such as the Pope's memories of his First Communion, Confession, attending Sunday Mass, the Real Presence, and Eucharistic Adoration and more are discussed. This beautifully illustrated book features inspiring watercolor paintings by artist Ann Kissane Engelhart.

Pope Benedict's answers, and the children's wonderful questions concerning this very important spiritual occasion in their young lives, provide inspiring text for this beautiful gift book for First Communion.

Artist Ann Kissane Engelhart explains her inspiration to create and illustrate this book, saying, "When I read about Pope Benedict's meeting with children who had recently received their First Holy Communion, I immediately knew that the Holy Father's beautiful responses to their questions should be made available to as many young families as possible. I decided that as an artist who had become fascinated with the pope's writings, I should do what I could to make that happen. I was delighted that the talented writer Amy Welborn was willing to collaborate with me in turning the fruits of the pope's encounter into a picture book for children."

About the Illustrator:

Ann Kissane Engelhart is a watercolor artist and illustrator. She has taught art in Catholic education for many years and currently teaches painting classes in her home studio on Long Island, New York, where she lives with her husband and two children. Her portraits and illustrations are exhibited in galleries and private collections in New York and Connecticut.
