LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Marriage, much like other relationships, require maintenance every now and then to ensure it remains in excellent condition.
The following verses, suggested by Crosswalk, make wonderful prayers to strengthen the bonds of marriage.
Even if your marriage is perfectly healthy, it doesn't hurt to ask the Lord for a few extra blessings so consider the following scriptures and pull them into your daily prayer arsenal:
Proverbs 24:3-4
By wisdom a house is built, by understanding it is made strong;
by knowledge its storerooms are filled with riches of every kind, rare and desireable.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
Better two than one alone, since thus their work is really rewarding.
If one should fall, the other helps him up; but what of the person with no one to help him up when he falls?
Isaiah 62:5
Like a young man marrying a virgin, your rebuilder will wed you, and as the bridegroom rejoices in his bride, so will your God rejoice in you.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is always patient and kind; love is never jealous; love is not boastful or conceited,
it is never rude and never seeks its own advantage, it does not take offence or store up grievances.
Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but finds its joy in the truth.
It is always ready to make allowances, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes.
Love never comes to an end. But if there are prophecies, they will be done away with; if tongues, they will fall silent; and if knowledge, it will be done away with.
Romans 15:5-6
Now the God of perseverance and encouragement give you all the same purpose, following the example of Christ Jesus,
so that you may together give glory to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ with one heart.
Ephesians 4:29
No foul word should ever cross your lips; let your words be for the improvement of others, as occasion offers, and do good to your listeners;
Philippians 2:3-7
Nothing is to be done out of jealousy or vanity; instead, out of humility of mind everyone should give preference to others,
everyone pursuing not selfish interests but those of others.
Make your own the mind of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, did not count equality with God something to be grasped.
But he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, becoming as human beings are; and being in every way like a human being,
Hebrews 10:23
Let us keep firm in the hope we profess, because the one who made the promise is trustworthy.
Mark 10:8-12
and the two become one flesh. They are no longer two, therefore, but one flesh.
So then, what God has united, human beings must not divide.'
Back in the house the disciples questioned him again about this,
and he said to them, 'Whoever divorces his wife and marries another is guilty of adultery against her.
And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another she is guilty of adultery too.'
Ephesians 5:21-30
Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Wives should be subject to their husbands as to the Lord,
since, as Christ is head of the Church and saves the whole body, so is a husband the head of his wife;
and as the Church is subject to Christ, so should wives be to their husbands, in everything.
Husbands should love their wives, just as Christ loved the Church and sacrificed himself for her
to make her holy by washing her in cleansing water with a form of words,
so that when he took the Church to himself she would be glorious, with no speck or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and faultless.
In the same way, husbands must love their wives as they love their own bodies; for a man to love his wife is for him to love himself.
A man never hates his own body, but he feeds it and looks after it; and that is the way Christ treats the Church,
because we are parts of his Body.
