EWTN to Televise Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass Live from San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio

IRONDALE, AL (December 8, 2010) - EWTN Global Catholic Network will televise the Solemn Mass of Our Lady of Guadalupe in both English and Spanish live from the San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio, Texas. (1 a.m. ET, Sun., Dec. 12). (High resolution pictures from the previous years' colorful Mass are available for download at: www.ewtn.com/media/Guadalupe.)

Newly installed San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller will preside. The program is part of EWTN's continuing series of live Masses, celebrated in dioceses throughout the United States, known as "Cathedrals Across America."

This is but one of many programs EWTN will televise in the U.S. on both its English and Spanish channels in honor the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which occurs on Dec. 12. The feast is important to all Catholics, especially Hispanic Catholics.

Programming in English on EWTN includes:

• "The Cloak of Juan Diego," which explains the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe and explains how her appearance to a peasant farmer named Juan Diego in 1531 brought about the conversion of missions of native Mexicans. St. Juan's Diego's tilma or cloak is still perfectly preserved after more than four centuries. Recent scientific tests on the image reveal even more astounding findings. (Airs 3 a.m. ET and 6:30 p.m. ET, Thurs., Dec. 9)

• "Our Lady of Guadalupe and Miraculous Mexico," in which Bishop Roman Danylak and other pilgrims journey to various Mexican shrines, including the Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe where the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe can be seen. (Airs 5 a.m. ET, Sat., Dec. 11)

• "Our Lady of Guadalupe: Mother of America," in which Fr. Andrew Apostoli explores the reality of Our Lady of Guadalupe as Mother of America and her importance as a source of light and hope in a dark time (Airs 10 p.m. ET, Fri., Dec. 10 and 2 p.m. ET, Sat., Dec. 11 in English; and at 3:30 a.m. ET, Sun., Dec. 12, in Spanish.)
