"Cultivate your Faith" - "Activate your Voice"

__________________________________________

BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA.
January 2003, one of the most successful sites on the World Wide Web launched a comprehensive redesign to dramatically improve usability and in the process changed the way they thought about their users. This web site has a larger and more loyal daily user-base than many of the Fortune 500. Over a million people consult the network of sites every day and 69% indicate they visit once each day or more! Nevertheless, this announcement probably won't be a hot topic on the floor of the NASDAQ, or at a high-tech trade show. That's because of it's from Catholic Online, located at www.catholic.org.

Like many of the earliest web sites, Catholic Online (COL) started out with the goal of simplifying access to information. "If you wanted information about what was going on in Rome, it was next to impossible to find it," says Michael Galloway, founder and President of Catholic Online. "If you wanted to find a favorite religious passage you had to locate and search through the Bible. But Catholic Online has changed all that. Today, this information is at your fingertips."

The mission of Catholic Online (COL) is to accurately represent the Catholic religion: its' "past" and present. Today, Catholic Online provides the largest online historical and biblical databases about the Catholic Church including comprehensive information with over 15,000 Catholic saints and comprehensive online scriptures from all books of the Old and New Testament.

"We started out by letting people do online Bible searches and by offering databases on saints and angels," according to Michael Galloway. "Then visitors asked us to add information that was relevant to today's events." So Catholic Online added up-to-the-minute news from Catholic News Service. COL was the first Internet Company that became part of the Catholic Press Association. COL also offers online forums so people can discuss religious topics as well as answers to frequently asked questions. "Our goal is to provide Catholics with whatever information they need--past or present, to explore their faith," says Mr. Galloway.

Visitors now can take an active role in "Cultivating their Faith" by searching and connecting to over 5 million pages of Catholic content, but also "Activate their Voice" through an innovative outreach program called "Your Catholic Voice", located at www.yourcatholicvoice.com. This outreach enlists Catholics to become members to activate their community. At a time of need in our Church, standing up and sharing issues and positions on important campaigns like Pro-Life and School Vouchers which helps join our local Catholic community together. These members take active roles, encouraging friends, family and community members to VOTE and become part of the political process on issues Catholics care about.

Visitor volume skyrocketed and has kept a growth month to month of 40 to 70% on some Channels or Sections of COL for the last six months. Today, when many web-based businesses are floundering, Catholic Online has become a unique success story. "It's fun to be atypical," says Michael Galloway. "Most people assume that successful web sites are frequented by males who are 20-30, who show little loyalty, and only want to buy the trendiest products. Our site offers information that is thousands of years old and a significant proportion of our daily visitors are either retired or don't yet have their drivers' license! But, in 12 years, we've never had a month without significant growth. And our visitors come back again and again and this new activation and outreach is changing EVERYTHING!"

In contrast to its "old world" image, the large www.catholic.org site is an example of high-technology at its best. What started initially as a simple web bulletin board, the mega site is powered by a sophisticated database technology engine comprised of a "carrier-grade" scalable IP network. Catholic Online's steady growth has been supported by expandable applications that have ensured high availability and maximum security.

Because it attracts a highly loyal, targeted audience, Catholic Online represents a strong marketing asset to other organizations who target the same audience. Today, COL hosts hundreds of web sites and the CatholicShopping.com Mall which includes over 50 web-based merchants.

As information has been steadily added to the existing site over the years, its "home-grown" appearance needed an update to ensure that people could easily access the information they needed. So how do you change a site with millions of users who have visited daily for over 12 years? "Very carefully!" says Michael Galloway. "We've already alerted our visitors that something new is coming. We have made every effort to ensure the navigation design makes it easy to find the information they are looking for. At the same time, we were committed to remain true to our site's religious roots. I think we have found the ideal balance."

The experts agree. ""I like the new look!" says AmericanCatholic Online/St. Anthony Messenger Press Editor, John Bookser Feister. "Catholic Online has done a great job of presenting its huge library of resources in a visually pleasing Web site."

Advertisers that reach the Catholic audience have increased their online budgets year over year, riding Catholic Online's reach to Catholics. Charities and complementary Catholic products, stores and books take advantage of the unique portal and deliver their messages to Catholics world wide.

Catholic Online will launch campaigns over 2003 which include Pro-Life and Catholics for School Choice- School Voucher. These issues as well as new Catholic "channels" focusing on Youth, Lent and other Catholic channels or sections will launch this year.

Expanding their mission, Catholic Online is now opening and expanding their presence worldwide. For the first time in their 12 year history, Catholic Online will license "Local" Dealerships" in all 50 US States and Countries world-wide. This program brings the localization of Catholic news, advertising and commerce to the world-wide community portal at www.catholic.org. Our "Local" Dealership Program is designed to put a select few faithful Catholic's in the business of communicating the mission of our Most Holy Catholic Church. Catholic Online supports the local dealerships with technical back end, local pages and approval to post and manage the local sites with leverage on over 12 years of Catholic Content. Expansion and reach is the mission of these campaigns, target "channels" and localization of Catholic Online.
