Praying For God's Mercy With Boldness and Confidence

Jesus gave us the seven Sacraments and left His Church as the earthly vehicle through which He would work to save souls. The salvation of souls, not social justice issues, is the "supreme law of the Catholic Church" and the primary reason for its existence.

CANASTOTA, NY - Nothing is more important than that goal - absolutely nothing!

How many of us Catholics actually know or believe this?

When was the last time you heard that Truth preached at Mass? Is it routinely included among the prayers of petition offered at Sunday and weekday Masses? How many professing to be Catholic seem at all concerned about the salvation of their souls and/or the souls of those they know and love?

St. Catherine of Siena harbored no confusion as to the Church's mission. The salvation of souls was her primary concern, as it should be for all of us, and most certainly for our Church and all its priests, deacons, bishops, and religious.

This Doctor of the Church and Lay Dominican desired it for herself and for all those she loved - everyone God created. And she prayed for it - boldly, confidently, repeatedly, unambiguously and with a chutzpah and conviction we might wish to emulate:

'Lord, I shall not move away from Your feet, Your Presence, as long as Your goodness has not conceded to me what I desire, as long as you do not agree to what I ask of You. I want You to promise me eternal life for all those whom I love. Lord put Your hand in mine. Give me proof You shall give me that which I beseech You.'
