The marriage of actor Tom Hanks to Rita Wilson at 27 long years is a most unusual success story - especially in Hollywood, a town of quick and buried marriages. Every successful couple has their secrets - and Hanks was most willing to share in a recent interview.
"When we first looked at each other there was definitely a kind of 'Hey, this is the place!' I felt that anyway," Tom Hanks told reporters.
LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - "When we first looked at each other there was definitely a kind of 'Hey, this is the place!' I felt that anyway," Hanks told reporters. "I think the end result is that we got married for all the right reasons."
Speaking at the Outfest Legacy Awards in Downtown Los Angeles last week, Hanks took pride in his and Wilson's union.
"Most of our friends have been married longer than we have," he added. "We're kinda the young pups when it comes to it."
Raising two children together, the 59-year-old actor stood by his wife's side during her recent cancer battle. Diagnosed with breast cancer, Wilson underwent a double mastectomy. The cancer was diagnosed early, so Wilson escaped the need for chemotherapy or radiation. Now cancer-free, Hanks remarked on his wife's remarkable luck. "God bless the luck of the draw and the people who have been in her corner," Hanks said.
Wilson, in an interview earlier this year exclaimed how was awestruck she was by all the love and attention Hanks showered on her. "I was so amazed, so blown away by the care my husband gave me. who knew it would make you even closer?"
Wilson shared an encouraging message online about her struggles in May.
"I want people to know that even though you go through life altering experiences, that this beautiful thing we call life, goes on," she wrote on Facebook. "I know that not everyone will have this good fortune but I think it's important to let you all know that there are good stories."
Her husband Tom Hanks is currently lighting up movie screens in Steven Spielberg's "Bridge of Spies." He has appeared in many motion pictures, but Hanks is probably best known for his iconic turns as the idiot savant in "Forrest Gump" and the gay attorney forced out of the closet in "Philadelphia."
