Bl. Bartholomew Laurel d1627 Born at Mexico City he joined the Franciscans as a lay brother and was sent to the Philippines in 1609. He studied medicine at Manila and in 1622 was sent to Japan where he suffered martyrdom for his faith by being b urned to death at Nagasaki. He was beatified in 1867. His feast day is August 17th.
