Saint Peter of Saint Joseph Betancur, known as Hermano Pedro, was born on March 19, 1626, in Vilaflor on the island of Tenerife. He went to Guatemala, where he devoted himself to the poor, the sick, and those in need of instruction in the faith. He founded a community that became the Order of Bethlehem. He died in Guatemala City on April 25, 1667. Pope John Paul II beatified him in 1980 and canonized him on July 30, 2002.
