Maria Mercedes Prat (1880-1936) was a religious child who attended Mass every day. Maria was a devoted student, painter, and excelled in sewing. Maria joined the Society of Saint Teresa of Jesus in 1904, in Tortosa. Maria was assigned to the motherhouse in Barcelona in 1920. In July of 1936, Maria was forced by the anti-Catholic government to abandon their house and was executed for the crime of being a nun.
