Saint Sunniva was an Irish princess who left her homeland to preserve her Christian virginity and seek a life devoted to God. According to the ancient tradition, she and her companions reached the island of Selja in Norway and lived there in prayer.
Sunniva died as a witness to the faith and became the patron saint of western Norway. Her memory celebrates the courage of a woman who entrusted her future completely to Christ.
