Saint Pauline of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus, born Amabile Lucia Visintainer, was an Italian-born religious sister who served the Church in Brazil. With a companion, she began caring for a woman suffering from cancer and discovered her vocation in prayer and works of mercy.
She founded the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, which served the sick, the poor, and children. Pauline endured misunderstanding and illness with humility and trust in God. Pope John Paul II canonized her in 2002.
