Saint Olaf II was a king of Norway who labored to establish the Christian faith in his kingdom. He supported the preaching of the Gospel, promoted the building of churches, and sought to unite public life with the law of God.

Olaf was killed in battle at Stiklestad on July 29, 1030, while attempting to regain his throne. His death was soon honored as the witness of a Christian king, and his shrine at Nidaros became a major place of pilgrimage.
