Saint Maria Micaela Desmaisieres was a Spanish noblewoman who dedicated her life to the Eucharist and to the protection and Christian formation of women in difficult circumstances. Her compassion led her to open a school and a house where women could find safety, education, and a new beginning.
She founded the Adorers, Handmaids of the Most Blessed Sacrament and of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Maria Micaela served the vulnerable with courage and charity and died while caring for victims of a cholera epidemic. Pope Pius XI canonized her in 1934.
