Bishop and martyr, mentioned by St. Paul. He was appointed bishop of Galatia. He had an apostolate in France, founding the diocese of Mainz, Germany. Returning to the east, he was martyred in the persecution conducted by Emperor Trajan. There is some confusion about the actual identity of the individual or two individuals in this account.
