LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The Treasury Inspector General has announced that about 2,500 documents that reveal taxpayer information that were being held by the Internal Revenue Service were given to the White House.

This was discovered by the political watchdog group, Cause of Action, and they are suing to gain access to these documents.
The chief claim among the suit is that the IRS and White House have been harassing taxpayers.
An email from the Justice Department's tax office revealed that a large number of documents were handed over to the administration, and this suggests that the White House was probing conservative and Tea Party group.
The documents are to be handed over on December 1, but the Justice told the group that they will be slightly delayed because the Treasury Inspector General for the Tax Administration "has located 2,500 potentially responsive documents and anticipates being able to finish processing 2,000 of these pages by," the date they're due to be handed over.
Additionally, the Justice said that the agency "needs the additional two weeks to deal with the last 500 pages to determine if they are responsive and make any necessary withholdings."
Cause of Action believed that the number of documents was in the thousands, and filed a suit to get access after a federal judge declined to allow the Treasury Department to hide them.
"This disclosure, coming only after Cause of Action sued TIGTA over its refusal to acknowledge whether such investigations took place, and after the court ordered TIGTA to reveal whether or not documents existed, signals that the White House may have made significant efforts to obtain taxpayers' personal information," the group said in a statement.
