Losing weight is a difficult task for many.

Most of us have tried a lot of different diets in pursuit of a healthier body but for some reason most attempts don't work the way we wanted or expected them to. According to Dr. Sally Norton, a weight loss expert, we have to reconsider our entire lifestyle in order for long-term changes to happen.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - As cited from The Daily Mail, here are four common mistakes we make while on a lose-weight diet:

1. Denying the eating habits

Which we shouldn't really do. To figure out what will be the best meal and lifestyle plan for us, we have to admit what we are actually eating. It is not just about the what, but the where, the when and the why of food consumption. Eating for all the wrong reasons will add more pounds, regardless of a weight loss program.

2. Losing muscle mass due to aging

Called sarcopenia, it a natural part of human aging. However, the problem lies in the denial of protein to our body because of the belief it will make us bulk up. On the contrary, good protein intake with muscle-building exercises can help shed weight as metabolism will speed up.

3. Poor sleeping habits

A person not getting enough quality sleep has a weak sense of control and will-power. Research has proven that people who have poor sleeping habits at night consume more calories through high-sugar and high-fat food used for energy.

4. Stress-eating

Helping us feel better, most will turn to high-fat and sugary foods to trigger the pleasure zones in brains. Then, stress hormone, cortisol, will encourage weight gain, putting our plans into waste.

Most importantly, get plenty of rest, fit exercise regimes and good healthy food.
