LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The Newsboys have released 14 studio albums and has toured extensively throughout the world. As to be expected with any long-lived touring musical band, the Newsboys' lineup has changed extensively throughout the years. Last year, Newsboy Paul Colman announced he would be leaving the band to work on his own solo projects. At the same time, it was announced that Jody Davis would return to the band, after a 5 year hiatus. "I am thrilled to be returning to the band and back with my band mates, who are some of my best friends," says Davis, "This is a big change in my life, and I'm looking forward to the tour and new record with excitement." The newsboys have been frequently compared to secular acts the Pet Shop Boys, Erasure and Dépęche Mode. While having a broad fan base among Christian and secular audiences, the Newsboys were at one time put in an awkward position when they played with some rowdy rock 'n' roll acts at county fairs. Appearing at Rockfest with groups such as REO Speedwagon and Judas Priest, the Newsboys found the lineup challenging. "We weren't sure about that show," says Duncan Phillips. "Obviously, as you know, we typically play Christian events, and we're very comfortable in that arena. I actually got online before we played and looked at the Rockfest website. There was some raunchy stuff going on!" "I called up one of our managers and said 'Guys, we can't do this show.' But we decided, you know, we need to do this show and I'm glad we did. We had a great time. We just went up and did what we do. We didn't change anything. They want us back next year. They said that they enjoyed the show immensely and could we please come back next year. So that's a good thing," Phillips says.
