Saint Teresa of the Andes, born Juana Fernández Solar, was a Chilean Discalced Carmelite nun who sought holiness through prayer, Eucharistic devotion, and generous love for Christ. From her youth she desired to belong entirely to God and to serve the Church through a hidden life of contemplation.
Teresa entered Carmel in 1919 and died at the age of nineteen after offering her sufferings to God. Pope John Paul II canonized her in 1993 as the first Chilean saint and a model for young people.
