Saint Sabbas the Goth was a Christian layman and martyr who lived among the Goths during a period of persecution. He openly confessed Jesus Christ and refused to take part in pagan rites, even when threatened by local authorities.

Sabbas was drowned in a river on April 12, 372, because he would not renounce the Catholic faith. The Church honors him as a courageous witness whose simplicity and steadfastness strengthened the Christian people.
