Saint Ponsiano Ngondwe was a Ugandan soldier and Catholic catechist who served in the royal household of Buganda. After embracing the Catholic faith, he helped others learn and practice Christianity and remained faithful even when the authorities began persecuting believers.

Ponsiano was arrested and questioned about his faith. He answered openly that he was a Christian and was killed at Kyamula on May 26, 1886. He was canonized by Pope Paul VI on October 18, 1964, with the other Uganda Martyrs.
