Saint Jesús Méndez Montoya was a Mexican diocesan priest who served his people during the religious persecution in Mexico. Born in Jiquilpan, he was known for his devotion to the Eucharist, his pastoral charity, and his courage in defending the rights of the Church.
When the persecution intensified, he continued to minister secretly to the faithful. He was captured and killed at Valtierrilla on June 5, 1928, after refusing to abandon his priesthood or the Catholic faith. He was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2000.
