Saint Luigi Maria Palazzolo was born in Bergamo, Italy, on December 10, 1827. Ordained a priest in 1850, he devoted himself to prayer, preaching, catechesis, and the corporal works of mercy, especially among children, the poor, and those who were abandoned.

He founded an orphanage and established the Congregation of the Sisters of the Poor, known as the Palazzolo Institute, so that the most vulnerable could receive both material assistance and Christian formation. Pope Francis canonized him on May 15, 2022.
