Saint César de Bus was born at Cavaillon in the Comtat Venaissin on February 3, 1544. After a period of worldly ambition, he returned to a life of faith, studied for the priesthood, and was ordained in 1582.

He became a zealous preacher and catechist, serving the poor and teaching the Christian faith. In 1592 he founded the Fathers of Christian Doctrine, known as the Doctrinarians, and also established a congregation of women devoted to Christian instruction. Pope Francis canonized him on May 15, 2022.
