Did President Obama encourage illegals to vote?

'When you vote, you are a citizen yourself.'

In a viral video of U.S. President Barack Obama interviewing with Gina Rodriguez, many believe he supports the illegal vote.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Rodriguez asks: "Many of the Millennials, Dreamers, undocumented citizens - and I call them citizens 'cause they contribute to this country - are fearful of voting.

"So if I vote, will Immigration know where I live? Will they come for my family and deport us?"

Obama's immediate response follows the pattern many politicians have enacted for decades.

He glossed over the tough question, changed direction and gave a general answer:

"Not true, and the reason is, first of all, when you vote you are a citizen yourself. And there is not a situation where the voting rolls somehow are transferred over and people start investigating, etc. The sanctity of the vote is strictly confidential."

When watching up to this point and failing to continue, it is easy for people to become confused and believe the President is encouraging illegal aliens to vote without fear of investigation or deportation.

Notice he says, "...when you vote you are a citizen...," implying no, illegals are not to vote. Only citizens can vote.

The confusing around the President's words was revealed in FOX News' Neil Cavuto's response:

"I can't believe I heard what I heard," Cavuto states. "The President isn't even questioning whether the person who is an illegal is voting. Actually reminding people that if you're a citizen you vote.

"But it's very clear the question is being asked about illegals voting and afraid that they might be reported to Border Security.

"You're illegal! You cannot vote! And the President of the United States is saying, 'Don't worry, no one will be spying on you and catching you.'

"...You're ignoring the fact that you've been questioned about illegal voting, which you can't do - why? Because you're not a citizen of this country!"

Several agree with Cavuto's interpretation of the President's words, which were cut off in the Fox anchor's comment.

The interview with Obama continues, with Rodriguez stating, "This has been a huge fear presented especially during this election."

The President replies: "And the reason that fear is promoted is because they don't want people voting. People are discouraged from voting and part of what is important for Latino citizens is to make your voice heard, because you're not just speaking for yourself.

"You're speaking for family members, friends, classmates of yours in school who may not have a voice. Who can't legally vote. But they're counting on you to make sure that you have the courage to make your voice heard."

Clearly, Obama was explaining only legal citizens can vote but it is the Latino vote that can help represent those who are unable to legally submit a ballot.

According to WND, Art Del Cueto, the vice president of the union representing Border Patrol agents, told Donald Trump their hands are tied and the Obama Administration continues to allow illegals to enter the country uninhibited.

Trump asked why the Administration would allow illegals and Del Cueto replied, "So they can go ahead and vote before the election."

Trump dismissed the notion, saying, "Big statement, fellas." Motioning to reporters, he added: "You're not going to write it. That's huge. But they're letting people pour into the country so they can go and vote...You hear a thing like that, and it's a disgrace. Well, it will be a lot different if I get elected."
