Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - El Paso, Texas topped the ranking of cities people are leaving, ditched by about 8,490 residents from the period of July 2013 to 2014.
Following El Paso is New York city area and then a couple of Connecticut suburbs. Among the 20 cities mapped in the study, the Rust Belt cities like Cleveland, Detroit and Toledo are fortunate enough to be filled in by international immigrants that contribute continuously to the growing population.
Public policy and urban planning professor at the University of California in Los Angeles, Michael Stoll speculates the trend of growing number of Americans leaving their hometowns is stemming from the skyrocketing home prices, which both locals and potential new residents cannot live with.
However, their vacancies are being filled up with foreign migrants due to "creative housing arrangements," which most Americans cannot and will not adopt to. With this type of arrangement, six to eight people or two to four families are jammed into one apartment or house.
Most of these migrants are offered low-skilled jobs; when there is an influx on the demand for high-skilled workers, foreigners are also taking those - many of them in the technology industry. These workers are being compensated sufficiently, enabling them to afford the living.
