LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - News of the Islamic fighters hiding in Europe hit only yesterday, with defense officials reporting more could be on the way.
The Associated Press reported several hundred specially trained ISIS militants hiding among the thousands of refugees.
These jihadists were trained in battleground strategies, surveillance and counter surveillance, then were rushed to Europe to perform acts of terror at times and places of their choosing.
Officials believe ISIS has been attacking Europe especially hard since getting into the country is so easy. Another reason the terrorist organization targeted Europe was to create the illusion that they are still a serious threat to the world.
The attack in Brussels is believed to have been conducted more to generate fear than to murder the maximum number of innocents.
The release of several images depicting a celebration for the Brussels airport attack indicates the group's desperation to appear powerful and in control, when the reality is not so grand.
Most of the images depict frightened-looking people accepting candy from the militants, while children cautiously reach their hands into the bags while suspiciously staring up at the fighters.ISIS has been losing ground in Iraq and Syria, leading to the desperate need to keep up appearances.
Unfortunately for Europe, the terror attacks are doing just that.
Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynerds reported four to 600 militants hiding among Europe's migrant population.
"The reality is that if we knew exactly how many there were, [the attacks] wouldn't be happening," Reynerds said.
Meanwhile, Europe officials have yet to announce their plans to thwart future attacks.
