What authorities initially believed to be the remains of flight MH370 is actually a discovery of a 200-year-old shipwreck.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The flight went missing in 2014 with 239 passengers on board. When evidence of the plane was discovered on the French island of Reunion, friends and family of the lost passengers refused to accept the wing belonged to MH370.

Though several conspiracy theories have spread as a result of the disappearance, the notion that for some reason the passengers are being held captive is currently the most popular.

"We believe our loved ones may still be alive and are being held at an undisclosed location for unknown reasons," family members wrote in a joint statement. "In the absence of proof to the contrary, we believe it is possible the missing may still be alive.

"If this is so, we would willingly grant the perpetrators amnesty in return for the release of the missing."

When faced with the flaperon discovered on Reunion, the group agreed, "We do not believe any of the series of official statements starting from March 24, 2015, up to and including that of September 3, 2015. There is no real proof justifying any of these statements."

The Joint Agency Co-ordination Centre (JACC) discovered a large metal object at the bottom of the Indian Ocean and believed it was MH370 when sonar images indicated it was a fuselage of a plane.

When JACC experts were unable to confirm the shape was MH370, officials ordered a more detailed search, leading to the confirmation of a long, twisted shape revealed to be a shipwreck.

JACC and Chinese authorities did not reveal the initial discovery as the families continue to display obvious distrust toward the government in  relation to the whereabouts of the plane. Authorities also wanted to refrain from providing false hope.

JACC released a statement reading: "On 19 December 2015, an anomalous sonar contact was identified in the course of the underwater search, with analysis suggesting the object was likely to be man-made, probably a shipwreck. The Havila Harmony was tasked with further examination of the contact using the AUV (autonomous underwater vessel).

"On 2 January 2016, the AUV captured high-resolution sonar imagery of the contact, confirming that it was indeed the wreck of a ship. The Shipwreck Galleries of the Western Australian Museum has conducted a preliminary review of some sonar imagery and advised that the vessel is likely to be a steel/iron vessel dating from the turn of the 19th Century."

Unfortunately, the two-year-long search is due to come to a close in June this year, despite pleas from the families of the passengers.

Until June, the search will continue. Please pray that God reveal the location of the missing flight to provide the families with definite closure.
