No human rights for the unborn - UN proposes to kill babies, instead of Zika virus

UN using Zika to drive abortion agenda.

The UN is now politicizing the spread of the Zika virus to promote abortion. The virus, which is carried by mosquitoes and can also be transmitted sexually, causes significant birth defects in children resulting in lifelong developmental and cognitive impairment. The UN is suggesting abortion as a solution to the crisis.

We ask you, humbly: don't scroll away.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - It's not common that people suggest death as a solution to a public health crisis, but this is precisely what the UN is proposing to mothers who could be infected with the Zika virus. The recommendation even comes from the UN's "human rights office."

The Zika virus is spreading rapidly through the Americas, especially in parts of South and Latin America. In response, those countries have asked women to postpone pregnancy until the epidemic has passed. Although there is no cure for Zika, its effects on people are mild. Most people have no symptoms. Once infected, people tend to be immune afterwards.

However, if a woman becomes pregnant while the virus is active in her body, it could affect her unborn child, causing birth defects. The most notable birth defect is microcephaly, a conditions where the head is much smaller than normal and mental development is significantly impaired.

To prevent these birth defects, women in areas have been asked to delay pregnancy until the epidemic has passed. However, pregnancy is not simply the result of a woman's action, and few people are likely to change their intimate behavior as a result of the public warnings. Therefore, the UN is suggesting that countries with abortion restrictions lift them, allowing women to terminate any pregnancies where the child has, or may have, microcephaly.

In response to the crisis, UN human rights chief, Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein, suggested that women be allowed to get abortions.

Brazilian bishops have rushed to the defense of all children pointing out that authorities should make efforts to eliminate the virus, not the people affected by it. Honduras Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga said, "We should never talk about 'therapeutic' abortion. Therapeutic abortion doesn't exist. Therapeutic means curing, and abortion cures nothing. It takes innocent lives."

Perspective matters here. Despite alarm over the virus from public officials, Zika isn't generally fatal to humans, in fact no deaths have ever been attributed to the disease. However, it should be noted that abortion is 100 percent fatal to human life.
