MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Dr. Philip Nitschke, a.k.a. Dr. Death, has helped peacefully end the lives of four terminally ill-patients in Australia's North Territory between 1996 and 1997 with the use of his machine, then called the Deliverance.

Now updated, the 67-year-old doctor claims the Destiny euthanasia machine is easier and more reliable to use. Rather than requiring special skills, like inserting an IV tube, the updated version will ask three questions before admitting gas.

1. Are you aware that if you go ahead to the last screen and press the "Yes" button, you will be given a lethal gas and die?

2. Are you certain you understand that if you proceed and press the "Yes" button on the next screen that you will die?

3. In 15 seconds you will be given a lethal gas ... press "Yes" to proceed.

According to Dr. Nitschke, the change in the machine was made after the developing discussions over the issue of euthanasia with Neal Nicol, the assistant of assisted suicide advocate Dr. Jack Kevorkian.

"Suicide is not a crime in the UK, and assistance is not required to use Destiny, which is perfectly legal. The gas that provides the peaceful death is not restricted," explained Dr. Nitschke. He explained that the volunteers will only be gassed with pure nitrogen in order to experience the "peaceful death."

While this suicide may be "legal" in the UK, it certainly remains a mortal sin against God.

"Suicide defies the love we owe God. Sure, we all face the tough times, hardships, and sufferings. However, we are called to place ourselves in the hands of God who will never abandon us, but see us safely through this life," explains the Catholic Education Resource Center. "The words of the 'Our Father' -  'thy will be done' - must be real for us. To commit suicide is to reject His 'lordship' in our life."
