A native of Ireland, Autbod was an associate of the three brothers who all became abbots, (Saints) Fursey, Foillan, and Ultan. Around the year 650, Autbod journeyed to France. Thereafter he combined an active apostolate of evangelizing Artois, Picardy, and the Belgian region of Hainaut with a private life
of solitude, settling as a hermit at Laon, France. Autbod has been venerated as the patron saint of Valcourt, where it is said he brought forth a spring that has wrought miraculous
cures of those with fevers.
