Saint Tarcisius was a young Roman Christian who served the Church during a time of persecution. According to the ancient tradition, he was carrying the Eucharist to Christians who were imprisoned when he was attacked by a mob.
Tarcisius protected the Blessed Sacrament with his life and died rather than allow the sacred mysteries to be profaned. The Church honors him as a martyr of the Eucharist and an example for young people who serve at the altar.
