Saint Caius was Pope of Rome during the difficult years of the persecution under the Emperor Diocletian. He guided the Roman Church with prudence and strengthened the faithful during a time when Christians faced pressure to abandon the Gospel.

Caius is traditionally remembered as a relative of the martyr Saint Susanna and as a pastor who served the Church with courage. He died in Rome and was honored from antiquity among the holy successors of Saint Peter.
