Saint Manuel Ruiz López was a Spanish Franciscan priest and missionary who served the Catholic community in Damascus. He devoted himself to preaching the Gospel, celebrating the sacraments, and caring for Christians living amid religious tension.
During the persecution in Damascus in 1860, Manuel refused to abandon his friars or deny the Catholic faith. He was killed with his companions at the Franciscan convent and was canonized by Pope Francis in 2024 among the Martyrs of Damascus.
