Saint Lukka Baanabakintu was a Ugandan Catholic layman and martyr who embraced the Gospel during the early evangelization of Buganda. He learned the faith from the missionaries and catechists and remained faithful when the royal authorities began persecuting Christians.

Lukka was killed during the persecution of the Uganda Martyrs on June 3, 1886. His witness shows the courage of lay Christians who accepted death rather than deny Jesus Christ. Pope Paul VI canonized him in 1964.
