Saint Finbarr of Cork was an Irish bishop, missionary, and founder of the monastery that became the center of Christian life in Cork. Formed by prayer and learning, he gathered disciples and preached the Gospel throughout southern Ireland.

Finbarr’s monastery became a place of Christian instruction and pastoral care, and the city of Cork grew around his spiritual foundation. He is honored as the patron and first bishop of Cork and as a father of the Irish Church.
