Blessed Engelbert Kolland was an Austrian Franciscan friar and missionary who served the Catholic community in Damascus. Born in Ramsau, he entered religious life and dedicated himself to preaching, the sacraments, and the care of Christians in the Holy Land.

During the persecution in Damascus in 1860, Engelbert was killed with other friars and lay Christians because of his fidelity to Christ. The Church honors him among the Martyrs of Damascus as a witness of missionary charity and courage.
