Saint Edmund Gennings was an English Catholic priest who returned secretly to his homeland to minister to Catholics during the persecution of the Church. Born in Lichfield, he entered the seminary at Rheims and was ordained for the English mission.
Edmund was arrested while celebrating Mass and condemned because he exercised his priestly ministry. He was executed at Gray’s Inn on December 10, 1591, and died forgiving his persecutors. Pope Paul VI canonized him in 1970.
