Saint Catald of Taranto was an Irish bishop and missionary who preached the Catholic faith in southern Italy. Tradition remembers him as a man formed by prayer and learning who left his homeland to serve the Church among peoples who needed the Gospel.

As Bishop of Taranto, Catald cared for the faithful, strengthened Christian worship, and became a beloved pastor. His shrine remains an important place of devotion, and he is honored as the patron saint of Taranto.
