Saint Raphael Massabki was a Lebanese Maronite layman who served the Catholic community in Damascus. A husband and father, he was known for his faith, charity, and devotion to the Church during a period of growing hostility toward Christians.
Raphael was killed with his brothers and other Christians at the Franciscan convent in Damascus on July 10, 1860. He refused to deny Christ and is honored among the Martyrs of Damascus, canonized by Pope Francis in 2024.
