Saint Mariana de Jesús de Paredes was an Ecuadorian virgin who lived a hidden life of prayer, penance, and charity in Quito. From childhood she desired to belong wholly to Christ and practiced works of mercy toward the poor and the sick.
Mariana offered her sufferings for the conversion and protection of her people and is remembered for her love of the Eucharist and the Immaculate Virgin. She died in 1645 at the age of twenty-six. Pope Pius XII canonized her in 1950.
