Saint James Lacobs was a Norbertine canon and parish priest in the Netherlands. Born in Oudenaarde in 1541, he served the Catholic faithful during the religious conflicts of the sixteenth century and remained devoted to the Church in a time of persecution.

James was arrested with the other Martyrs of Gorkum and refused to abandon the Catholic faith or the authority of the Pope. He was hanged at Brielle on July 9, 1572. Pope Pius IX canonized him with the Martyrs of Gorkum in 1867.
