Saint Gabriel Lalemant was a French Jesuit priest and missionary among the Huron people in North America. He joined the mission with a deep desire to proclaim Christ and to serve a people facing war, displacement, and suffering.
Gabriel was captured and tortured with Saint Jean de Brébeuf in 1649. He died as a martyr at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons and was canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1930 with the other North American Martyrs.
