Saint Procopius of Sázava was a Czech priest, hermit, and abbot who helped preserve the Christian and Slavonic heritage of Bohemia. Born in the region of Chotoun, he first lived as a hermit and later gathered disciples who desired to seek God through prayer and work.

He founded the monastery of Sázava, where the monks cultivated a life of worship and learning and preserved the use of the Slavonic liturgical tradition. Procopius guided the community with wisdom and fidelity until his death on March 25, 1053. He was canonized in 1204.
