Saint Peregrine of Auxerre was the first bishop of Auxerre and an early missionary to Roman Gaul. According to ancient tradition, Pope Saint Sixtus II sent him from Rome to strengthen the Christians of the region and proclaim the Gospel to those who had not yet believed.
Peregrine preached in the cities of Gaul and helped establish the Church of Auxerre. He suffered martyrdom for Christ during the persecutions of the early Church and is remembered as the founding shepherd of that ancient diocese.
