Saint Paternus of Auch was an early bishop and evangelizer of the region of Gascony in southern Gaul. He served the first Christian communities with the courage and simplicity required of the pastors who planted the Church in the Roman world.
Tradition remembers Paternus as an early bishop of Eauze, a see later associated with Auch. His preaching and faithful witness helped preserve the Gospel in a region where Christianity was still young, and the Church continues to honor him among its first shepherds.
