Saint Shemon Bar Sabbae was the Bishop of Seleucia-Ctesiphon and a courageous martyr of the Persian Church. He served as shepherd of a large Christian community during a time when the rulers of Persia suspected Christians of political disloyalty.

Shemon refused to collect taxes from Christians for the Persian king and would not renounce his allegiance to Christ. He was arrested and martyred together with many members of his flock during the persecution of King Shapur II. His steadfast witness strengthened the Church of Persia in a time of great trial.
