Saint Michel Garicoïts was a French priest and founder who devoted his life to priestly formation, missionary zeal, and obedience to God’s will. Born in Ibarre in the Basque region, he entered the seminary and served as a priest with a strong love for the Eucharist and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

He founded the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Bétharram to form priests and missionaries who would serve the Church with humility and apostolic courage. His spiritual ideal was a generous readiness to do whatever God asked. He died at Bétharram on May 14, 1863, and was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1947.
