Saint Jean de Lalande was a French Jesuit lay missionary who served among the Huron people in North America. He assisted the Jesuit missionaries in their demanding apostolate and sought to bring the consolation of Christ to communities affected by war and persecution.
Jean was captured and killed near present-day Midland, Ontario, in 1646. He gave his life in fidelity to the Catholic faith and is honored with the North American Martyrs. He was canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1930.
